Letting Go…
The aspect I love the most about historical fiction is immersing myself in extensive research. To prepare for my upcoming debut novel, No Bread Tomorrow, I buried myself in an extensive reading list of over 154 books, loaded eight file drawers with academic works, filled eighteen spiral bound notebooks with handwritten notes, and embarked on journeys to Serbia, France, England, and Washington D.C. to learn more.
Here’s the catch—Letting go of certain details can be a daunting task for any writer, but it becomes even more challenging in the realm of historical fiction. The sheer volume of information accumulated is staggering. I want to share all of it with my readers, but if I didn’t stop writing, No Bread Tomorrow would end up being a thousand-page tome.
Hard at work on my second novel in this sweeping family saga involving the Nikolić women, I am, once again, diving deep into research. This story is unfolding in ways I never imagined, and there will be more to share in the coming months.
