Mila Evanovich

Mila Evanovich is an award-winning international historical novelist who brings to life the overlooked stories of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia and the Serbian experience during and after World War II. Through meticulously researched fiction, she draws from years of archival investigation, survivor testimonies, and rare historical sources to explore the profound human cost of war, exile, and displacement, all while honoring the resilience of the human spirit. Her debut novel, No Bread Tomorrow, earned the International Impact Award for Historical Fiction – History and Military and is currently being translated into Serbian. Its sequel, A Place Between Borders, follows the Nikolić family as they navigate postwar exile and life in the displaced persons camps of Italy and Germany.

Mila’s writing is deeply informed by firsthand interviews and extensive research in leading archives, including the Hoover Institution, the Institute of Contemporary History, and the Imperial War Museum. An independent historical researcher, Evanovich is committed to preserving the history and lived experiences of the Serbian people, particularly those whose voices were overshadowed in the aftermath of World War II. Through her novels, lectures, author events, and academic presentations, she seeks to ensure that this remarkable generation and the sacrifices they endured are not forgotten.

Mila lives on the west coast with her family and is currently at work on the third and final installment of the Nikolić Sisters Trilogy.
